What it means for your decorated glassware and bottles
Preparing for the future
The European Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) introduces new rules aimed at making
packaging throughout Europe more sustainable, recyclable and easier to process.
While some obligations become applicable from August 2026, many additional requirements will be introduced
gradually towards 2030 and beyond.
At Ayano, we closely follow these developments and are proactively preparing our products, packaging and internal
processes to comply with all applicable PPWR requirements as they come into force.
Our objective is simple: to make the transition as smooth as possible for our customers.
Does PPWR affect drinking glasses?
In general, no.
A drinking glass is considered a consumer product rather than packaging. This means the glass itself is not
subject to the PPWR packaging requirements.
However, the packaging used to deliver decorated glasses—such as gift boxes, cartons and transport
packaging—is covered by the regulation and must comply with the applicable European requirements.
Does PPWR affect glass bottles?
Yes.
Glass bottles placed on the European market are considered packaging and therefore fall within the scope of the
PPWR.
Over the coming years, additional requirements relating to recyclability, documentation, labelling and producer
responsibilities will gradually become applicable.
Ayano is actively preparing for these developments together with our suppliers and customers.
How is Ayano preparing?
To ensure continuity of supply and future compliance, Ayano has launched a structured PPWR implementation
programme.
This includes:
Reviewing all packaging materials and components
Identifying and validating material specifications from suppliers
Verifying recyclability of packaging materials
Assessing packaging materials for PFAS compliance where applicable
Preparing for future European sorting and recycling labels
Updating packaging specifications, artwork and labelling where required
Implementing internal PPWR documentation and compliance procedures
Preparing for future Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) obligations
Continuously monitoring new European guidance and implementing changes when applicable
What does this mean for you?

By preparing early and working closely with our suppliers, Ayano aims to ensure that your decorated glasses,
bottles and packaging continue to comply with applicable European legislation without disrupting your ordering
process.
